PlayStation players will soon be able to revisit two classic Call of Duty titles without digging out a PlayStation 3. Activision and Treyarch have officially confirmed that Call of Duty: Black Ops and Call of Duty: Black Ops II are arriving on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 this July.
Reports about the ports surfaced earlier this month, but the announcement has now been made official through Treyarch's social media channels. The conversion work was handled by Iron Galaxy, though fans should keep expectations in check. These releases are straightforward ports rather than full remasters, meaning the original visuals and presentation will remain largely unchanged.
Originally launched in 2010, Call of Duty: Black Ops quickly became one of the franchise's most successful sub-series. Its sequel followed in 2012 and helped cement the Black Ops name as a fan favorite. More recently, the series saw consecutive releases with Black Ops 6 in 2024 and Black Ops 7 in 2025.
The Black Ops storyline will take a break this year as Activision shifts focus back to the Modern Warfare saga. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 is scheduled to launch on October 23 for Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC.
Players who purchase either the Standard Digital Edition or the Vault Edition in advance will gain access to an early-access period before launch. Among the new features being introduced is an expanded DMZ mode that includes a wanted-level mechanic inspired by systems commonly seen in open-world crime games.
